About The Credit Record
An independent, US-focused review of credit repair and debt settlement companies against a published standard tied to federal law — not to customer-satisfaction surveys or a proprietary "best rank" algorithm.
What this site is
The Credit Record checks real credit repair and debt settlement companies against a 9-point standard built on specific, checkable facts — mainly the Credit Repair Organizations Act's advance-fee ban and the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule Advance Fee Rule, plus public complaint and enforcement records. We're not a "best of" ranking site. Our aggregate findings live in the Register, and our plain-English explainers live in the Library.
What this site isn't
We don't take payment to influence a finding, and we don't run a numbered "#1 Best" list or star-rating badges — see our editorial policy for exactly how we're funded (currently: we aren't, and there's nothing to disclose yet) and what we'd disclose if that changes. We're also not a law firm, a financial advisor, or a substitute for reading your own contract — see our terms.
Where we are right now
The standard is published, the vetting process is running, and the Register has checked 18 companies so far, 7 of them named on the public passing directory — see the current totals and the named, passing companies on the Register itself, or Updates for a dated record of everything that's shipped.
Scope
Everything on this site describes United States law and US-based companies. Credit repair and debt settlement are regulated differently outside the US (different bureaus, different consumer-protection statutes), and we haven't researched those regimes — we're not implying international coverage by omission.
